We are delighted to welcome Kathi and Robin Hiatt, who recently moved to our ward from Southern California. They are the proud parents of six children, four sons and two daughters, and have already blessed us with their uplifting Sacrament Meeting talks. In those remarks, they spoke about the leap of faith required to take this adventurous step into the unknown, how they sought inspiration, and how that inspiration ultimately led them here to the Argyle Ward. Their children, Kevin and Lisa Hiatt, played a key role in encouraging them to settle in Texas.
Their Story
Kathi grew up in Southern California and joined the Church at age 16, following in the footsteps of her older brother who was the first in their family to be baptized. Upon returning from his mission, her brother left Kathi a simple notecard of counsel under her pillow on the eve of his departure to BYU. He counseled Kathi to break off a relationship with her non-member boyfriend and to trust the Lord’s plan. Though it was hard, she felt impressed to follow that counsel and have faith and to be of good cheer, that everything will be okay. Robin is the beneficiary of that counsel.
Robin was raised in North Carolina and served in the Costa Rica Mission, which at that time also included Panama, Honduras, and Nicaragua. After his missionary service, he attended BYU, where he met Kathi. He eventually relocated to her hometown of Los Alamitos, California, where they built their family and lived for 50 years before coming to Texas.
Robin began his career in banking but soon found his professional home at Diamond Sports, where he combined his love for athletics with his work. He enjoyed a long career that included playing competitive softball, playing basketball (until layups became jump shots…), and coaching his children in baseball. Though retired from active competitive sports, he has taken up golf, and continues to consult with Diamond Sports.
The Move to Texas
The Hiatts prayerfully considered where to plant new roots, exploring Florida, California, and Texas. Last fall, Kathi visited Texas alone and felt drawn here, though the first home they considered didn’t feel right. A later experience attending Sacrament Meeting in a nearby ward confirmed their feelings that they were meant to be in the Argyle Ward.
Service in the Church
Together, Kathi and Robin have served extensively. Robin has served as a bishop three times and in two stake presidencies. Kathi has served in leadership roles in both stake and ward Young Women’s organizations, as a seminary teacher, and as an FSY representative on the coordinating council. Robin’s favorite calling has been teaching Sunday School to 16–17-year-old youth.
Faith & Interests
One of their guiding scriptures is Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Both Kathi and Robin love spending time with their family, traveling to visit their children, enjoying book clubs, and deepening their roots here in Texas. Robin remains active with golf and sports, while Kathi treasures scripture study and nurturing connections.
We feel truly blessed to have the Hiatts among us in Argyle. Their faith, service, and experience strengthen our ward family, and we look forward to building many wonderful memories together.
